this is what i came up with

a rheostat is a good idea ,, i think a house dimmer switch would work huh?

id be worried though the gradual application of electric would burn the pto up faster considering they are designed not to slip at all

90% of the places i ride are grass, gravel or dirt i ride on the street when it snows but thats not so often,Im running ribbed Carlisle' tires so the "harsh" lock up isn't going to affect me too much the tires are going to slip some and the shock will be absorbed through the pads under the motor. Its not going to rip the engine out the kart and throw it 150 yards like some people think,lol

my final design concept is 11 hp cast iron havester 6 inch pto with duel pulleys . duel 10 inch pulley on a 3/4 inch jack shaft , 19 tooth sproket on the jack shaft running back to a 40 tooth on the axal my tire diameter is 14 inches on the back

I have to use the car alternator with this motor it has no build in charging capabilities

correction

my engine will have a triple pulley and my jack shaft will have the duel pto on it otherwise my alt only chargers while im rolling which is dumb

any ideas is appriciated
