pulled off the 2.8 and replaced them with a 7hp robin/subauru on 2 of ours, and the third we left stock so far. it pulls my 80# son around just fine

check and see if your speed control screw is adjusted correct. you can make that little engine work good, but it will need to be regeared too. if the bike is for you son?keep the 2.5hp on. for you, install a 5.5 or 6.5

i have a 2.8 on my sons it was slow at first just back out the speed control screw almost all the way and make sure the chain is not to tight that to will slow down the mini there not the fastest thing but it is great for kids and plenty fast enough for a 7o,80 # kid

Put a 80 tooth rear sprocket on it. you will be amazed at how well that works.

The big issue I've found with the DB30's stock setup is that the clutch seems to engage well before the engine hits optimal power rpm.I put a 5.5hp clone with a Maxtorque clutch on mine and it was a world of difference.

Easiest trick is a bigger driven sprocket,as previously stated. But you'll have to get one with no mounting holes and drill them yourself,as sofar no-one makes a larger sprocket for the DB30 yet.

Another idea would be to change the clutch with one that engages at higher rpm.

Thanks for all the info. The chain was really tight. It helped a bit.
We put a tec 3.5 and a max torque clutch on the other already..wow 35mph easy..Thats not much power diff but it runs like it should.Something must be wrong.
The choke is not on.
I don't know how to adjust the speed control screw Jim..Could you tell me where that is at and what it looks like?
If i change the clutch will that really help or will i be spending money for not much gain?
Here would i get a undrilled gear at?Can i just get one with holes drilled and just make new ones ?
Also i don't think i should remove the govenor with a 10 and 13yo ridding..That's probably not safe is it?
Also one of the boys weigh in at around 120# and the other at 80# if that helps.
