this post talks about it its on a tec but a briggs is the same basic thing
its just a normal 3.5 hp engine. can u show me some pics on how to hook it up? here is the engine im planning to connect it to,
well im not sure about your motor but it looks awefully close to mine plus its been the same for me on all briggs that i have installed a kill switch on... on your bike in particular look behind the plate that has the throttle and choke arms coming out. there should be a wire connected to it and then when either the choke is in the off position or when the gas is in the off position(ive seen them on either one) the lever grounds the wire out..... so what you need to do is remove that wire it should just take you pressing down a metal contraption they use to hold it down i wouldnt cut it because there will not be a lot to work with anyway.. now get your kill switch the kind with one wire coming off and screws to your handle bar and connect it to that one wire you just took off that plate
MetalMan said the same thing I was gonna say, there definitely should be a wire attached to one of the levers, I have a 3.5 and a 5hp with the same setup and both had kill switches there.
ok, i checked behind the plate and i saw a black wire. do i just connect the kill switch to that black wire?
yes /that should be the wire /to test hook up a piece of scrap wire start the engine then press the other end of the wire to a head bolt and it should stop the engine /dont touch bare spots on the wire ends or you will get shocked
will it electrocute me when i touch the black wire?
if you touch a bare spot on the wire when its running only it will shock you not eletrocute you shock you if your worried wear rubber gloves and rubbersoul shoes /i thought you would be finished with the test kill already
no no ... you have to take the black wire thats connected to the plug on the top of the motor ... hold it and try and pull start your engine
