Can you replace ignition points with CDI unit?

Is it possible to replace the points on my older Tecumseh H35 with the newer H35 CDI units?

Yes...

I've even put Tecumseh CDI units on older Briggs & Stratton engines to eliminate the need for points...just slot the mounting holes on the unit to compensate for the slight difference in mounting hole ctr-ctr distance...

Also, the lifespan of most CDI units is virtually forever, so, rather than buy them as new OEM replacement parts, I buy junk pushmowers at swaps and fleas, and strip them of usable parts...

Many vertical shaft engine components found on mowers are direct replacement parts for similar size horizontal shaft engines...

Make sure your coil isn't under the flywheel. If it is, you may be stuck. The ones from the 80s had the coil on the outside and the points and condenser under the flywheel. On these, you can swap coils. The earlier ones don't have the posts above the flywheel for mounting the coil.

Well my magnets and coil is under the flywheel so I guess I'm out of luck.
