rear sprocket

I need a rear sprocket for my Manco Streaker project. Its only powered by a 2 horse Briggs so would i be correct in assuming that i want the largest sprocket possible so i can get some acceleration from the small engine.

I ride around my yard which isnt huge so i am looking for more acceleration then top speed.
The largest sprocket i could find was a 72 tooth. Would this work fine? From what i have looked at that is as large as i can go because my tires are only 10 inches in diameter.

With only 5" rims you run the risk of bottoming out the sprocket in turns or in the grass. A bolt on jack shaft might be the ticket or weld one on.

i thought about a jackshaft but it would interfere with my scrub brake.

And a 72 tooth sprocket is 8-3/4 inches in diameter so that gives me 1-1/4 inches clearance since me tires are 10 inches in diameter. I just have to make sure the tires are fully inflated

Won't you only have 5/8" clearance? Half of you diameter difference? That's not much.

Go with a 60 tooth sprocket and strap on a nitrous kit for the 2 HP baby Briggs LOL
There is a bolt on jack shaft kit made by Maxi-Torque but I don't think your little engine has the 4 mounting holes in the side cover. It may be time to get a bigger engine so you can streak in style on your Manco Streaker.

Jim i dont understand what you are trying to say.
My tires are 10" in diameter, minus the 8-3/4" sprocket gives me 1-1/4" clearence between the sprocket and the ground.

And a 2 horse was all i could get my hands on, in the future i will definetly be looking for a bigger engine

I would wait for a bigger engine, over 3.5HP though and it sticks way out the side on the little Steakers. A 72 T on a 5" rim is too big, I'd be grinding the chain of on every turn and bump.

Yes on the diameter you have 1 1/4" but when you stick an axle through the center of both of them you are now working with the radius, which is half of the diameter. 5" minus 4 3/8" = 5/8". That is the distance the sprocket will be from the ground with an inflated tire. Add the chain and sit on it and it gets even closer to the ground. Hope this helps.
