Hot and Cold spark plugs

Whats the difference between a hot and a cold spark plug.

And if I add performance parts like a new carb or larger jet will it benefit me to get a hotter or colder plug? or should i stick with what the manufacturer recomends?

The heat range of a spark plug refers to how fast it transfers heat away from the center electrode and into the cylinder head. A colder plug transfers more heat away from the center electrode and reduces its operating temperature. A hotter plug does just the opposite; it transfers less heat away and keeps the center electrode at a higher temperature.

Unless you have done some pretty serious modifications to your engine, the stock heat range will be fine. Too cold of a heat range can cause carbon fouling because deposits are not burned off and too hot of a plug can cause pinging.
