Can anyone ID this Engine?

This is the most recent addition to the pile. Anyone know what it is? I have not been able to locate any form of a name on it. There are a few numbers here & there but that's about it.

Looks like it was spun a bit to tight once upon a time.

I sure would like to know more about it.

Thanks

My guess is that it's either a Clinton or a REO.

Any idea of model # ?

I was told that it was removed from a 1993 Quarter Midget.

There are a couple of what appears to be a date stamp that have the number -93 in them.

The weird case on the output shaft may be a fluid drive clutch or a gear reduction . It is four stroke with a bolt one base . Sure is out of the past . I say no way to being a 1993 vintage engine more like early 40's

i don't see how that can be a 4-stroke, it has no place for valves...of what i can see..and the carb is the float kind which weren't even around in the 40's

At first glance I too thought it was a 2-stroke & that the seller was mistaken.

Take a close look at where the intake manifold enters the engine. Pretty high up on the head to be a 2-stroke.

I recently heard that it may be a DECO engine & that the gear box on the side is a 6 to 1 gear reduction unit. There is no neutral at this time, just direct drive.

I saw the frame that the engine was pulled from. It was not vintage in any way & looked quite modern. I tend to believe the date of 1993. Not to say that the engines design isn't from bygone days. The engine itself does not have enough patina to be very old.

I would bet DECO,a good buddy of mine raced quarter midgits for several years and used only DECO.They looked just like this one.I believe these were mainly used by the military to run generators and such.
