here's my idea... what do you think

i just had a brainwave as i was looking at a bike i was stripping down today.

I think what I'm going to do for my minibike is put the gears on it- it has one forward gear and 5 back rear wheel gears. Now don't tell me any crap about fitting it, because i already figured that out... but what do you guys think about doing that?

I think it would be a great thing because its simple and it would give me some torque for when i'm runnin it off road.

WHat you guys think?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 1 forward gear and 5 back rear wheel gears.

I think you have to give us more details on your design.

yea that was poorly written.
k so on a bike with a shifter, you have 1-3 gears on the middle of the bike- these are attached to your pedals. on this bike there's one. there's a chain going from this gear to the back wheel- which usually has 5-7 gears on it depending- mine has 6, not five sorry.

so i'd basically take that whole thing off the bike, put it on my minibike, so that way i have a way to shift different speeds and torques for whatever type of riding i'll be doing.

what do you think?

It will not work if you are using a motor with any kind of power (say over 2 hp). The reason it works on a bike is because the a person only has about 1/8 of a hp so the chain can handle that kind of misalignment because there is a relativel low tension stress when compared to the chain on a mini bike. Second, bike chains are made differently- there "bushings" are designed to account for the side load. So, i'm sorry, but your design will not work....I have seen a guy on youtube who put a Honda 1.5hp on a bike and ran it thru the gears, but even this kept breaking the chain.

OK.You're reffering to a pedal bikes gearing system. Now it makes sense.

But like Briggs said.It won't be strong enough to handle any real power.I tried it with a large chainsaw engine many years ago.Broke more chains than I could count before I got the hint.
