Manco Thunderbird??

I picked up this Manco Thunderbird I think that is the model from searching. It has a B&S 5.5 OHV I guess that is not original,The frame was broke at the left foot peg.I cut out the tube that ran across and replaced it with a bigger tube.I dont like the scrub brake so I will replace it with a clutch brake.

Yep,that's what it is. Originally a 3.5 tec on them.
The only thing about a bigger engine is the huge rear sproket makes it tough to keep the front wheel down and the seat sucks. But overall a great bike. I changed mine a bit.

So I guess Red is the original color,And it looks like your sprocket is alot larger than mine so mine might not be original.Should finish the welding tommorrow and cut a new chain and see what she does.

I too own a Manco Thunderbird, see my photos. Word of caution. With the bigger motor and more power the motor plate tends to flex and cause the chain to pop off the sprocket. Weld in a brace at the every front of the motor plate-you will be glad you did.

Mine had the huge rear sprocket on it, and I replaced it with a smaller one so I could get more speed to beat Buckeye on the flat track. I hate the scrub brake too. I want to mount a disk brake on mine, but have never gotten around to it. There is a guy on Atlanta CL that has two really nice one, and I think they are pretty cheap.
