    Lawn Mower engine

I have a Craftsman 3.5 lawn mower engine and I was wondering If I could possibly use it on a mini bike. It has a vertical shaft (which I was gonna cut off), and it has a horizontal shaft running on the side with a sprocket and chain. I was wondering if that would work if I cut the shaft flush? It's came from a self propel unit.

    Thanks,
    Zach

also the sprocket has set screws holding it on. So it can be removed and switched for a clutch. It's a small shaft tho like the size of a sharpie marker.

Not sure, but I think the aux shaft runs at a significant reduction from the main shaft RPM... maybe as much as half speed.

Save yourself some time and trouble, just get a horizontal shaft engine to stat with.

no it spins fast one revolution for every one the normal shaft does. + I own it already so that's a plus. It's already running a #35 chain

Must be different from the ones I've seen... the aux shaft was driven off the cam gear which turn at 1/2 speed from the c/s rpm.

    Good Luck

just dump the idea, and save yourself the pain. Lots have tried, and I have never seen a success.

Easier just to take the motor and rotate it 90 degrees and make a new intake for the carb to make it live in the correct orientation.

If its a 4 stroke yes forget it you cant flip the motor because the sump needs oil, but if its a 2 stroke it shouldn't be much problem at all. As stated all you need to do it rotate the carby. Here if a picture of my bike engine that were produced as vertical shaft lawn mower engines.
