Old school battle rifles

A friend from my Gun forum came in to visit from the mid east so I took him out to my private range to give him a taste of some "old school" battle rifles.

I dusted off one of my M1 Garand's which is a rare 4 digit ser# 1939 (Pre WWII) (30-06). The thing still shoots tight groups and was THE rifle that won WWII. I forgot how much I still love the M1.

Next was my FAL (762x51/.308) Which was The most used hi power/light machine gun battle rifle in the world. I had mine cut and crowned to S.American "Paratrooper" spec's (17.3") to make it handier.

Both, can still hang with any military rifle today and are proven to run reliable under the most adverse conditions.

A nice distraction from mini's in the rain.

It musta been difficult being armed with a bolt Mauser against a Garand auto loader. I never owned an M1 Garand and now they seem too expensive to consider. Have an AK and it sounds like a weakling after putting down my son's Garand.

i have 2 old rifles a 1941 m38 mosin nagont, and an Egyptian Kalashnikov. my mosin is a hunters dream rifle, reliable, easy maintenance, almost no drop at 100 yards. the ak is my make some noise kinda gun, if i feel like breaking shit or just loosing some hearing my ak is served best with some 123 gr full metal jackets.

best thing about my mosin, has to be the fact that the ammo is so cheap!! and its easily kept crazy accurate

That's a clean old M44. I have an M38 and 91/30. The 91/30 is decent, but the M38 has seen a lot of rounds through it judging by the rounded lands and counterbored barrel. Prior to getting them I did plinking with .22s, but now those feel like BB guns....and that terrific steel buttplate.... The report and 24" muzzle flash are fun, though.

In Soviet Russia, rifle fires YOU!

If only the cheap stuff was non-corrosive. I got some Hot Shot 7.62x54R when it was on sale for $10/20rd and I'm glad I didn't buy any at the regular $20 price. There were reports that some of the Hot Shot was actually good, reloadable Prvi Partisan, but not what I got. Mine are lacquered steel and the bullet was pinched when they crimped the neck. I received another box a few months later as a gift and this time there was sealer around the bullet and primer. It seems that every batch is different.

As for accuracy, there are a few videos on YouTube of sniper models hitting targets up to 1000yds.
