Ruttman Project

When I was a kid way back in 1970 I purchased a Ruttman Wild Goose
new for $200. Great mini bike which had a Tecumseh 172cc 4hp.
4 other kids in the neighborhood had the same bike and we used
to race them in an industrial park and were chased by the cops many times.
Never had it taken away. One of the kids did and it cost him $40 bucks
to get it back after paying a fine. Anyway since that bike is gone, I
have been searching around to recreate this bike. I have found a frame,
seat and recreated ruttman logo sticker for clutch guard. I plan on
making it the same as it was before with the 1971 "Plum Crazy" color
paint which supposedely was used on the original Ruttmans. Does anyone
out there know any history on that? Since the weather is so nasty
here in NJ this time of year I'm going to have to hold off on painting
till some warmer weather since I do it outside. My other bike Custom Green
left a mess of my garage because it started getting too cold to spray outside.
I'll post photos as I go along.

The Plum Crazy purple was used on Mopars. Road Runners I think.Ive seen pictures of the Plum Crazy Ruttmans. There was someone selling Plum Crazy paint on eBay a while back, maybe still. Good looking seat.

After searching I have finally obtained the main components of this
Ruttman Project. The frame which came with the black & white seat
is the same seat I had back in the early 70's. I also have the purple one
that I just had to get. The frame is in really good shape and has been
painted silver. Decent paint job but I need to change it. Kickstand and
footpegs work great. Got a sprocket coming. I'll keep posting as it goes along.

Looks good, are you going to tie the purple in anywhere else?

Awesome...the Ruttman bikes have a nice shape to the frame...if you add a color like 'Plum Crazy', which I'm a big fan of, this bike should 'pop' right out at people...

Can't wait to see it...
