Baja mini project bike

After converting a few bikes over to 6.5hp motors from the weak 2.8's I wanted to build a custom Baja mini. Starting with a rolling frame on Feb 20. by the middle of April it was done. I put alot of work into this bike welding and fabricating the custom parts. Fender mounts, tank, seat and caliper mounts, throttle linkage, rear wheel mods to make it work on the front, governer and low oil sensor removal, exhaust, TAV mods, Carlisle tires and paint. The only mods to the 6.5 hp clone motor is exhaust, air filter and re-jetting. I am working on a better looking exhaust now. The powdercoat on the frame, the paint on the tank and shroud turned out great. The bike runs strong, 45+ mph with a 240lb rider. The disc brakes work awsome. Check the out the photos

Time to test ride it then dis-assemble and take the parts to the painter and powdercoat. Once I got the parts back it took about 2 days to re-assemble

great db30!!(sounds tougher than doodlebug) looks like you put alot more work into it than it did, the paint job is superclean, and the fenders look great. and a front brake you don't know how long I thought about tring that, Nice job!!

thanks for the compliments!

I think these "import" mini's are the black sheep on this site

There not "old school"
There not "made in America"
no flat head engines

But..........
they are fun
No greif for chopping and welding on them
There cheap to build

Well, they're not "old school" for the older members, the "older generation", but they will be for my son, or the younger generation. I'm 38, with a 10yr old, he's got a green DB, I've got a red with a 7 hp subie, and we're building a red DB into a trike with a subie 7hp. Yeah, they're GREAT to chop up and modify. It won't be too soon, and we'll be looking for another, bigger engine for the kids mini.
I'd be all for buying an American made mini, if there were any being sold locally for around the same price. But I haven't found any, maybe I'm not looking hard enough. I've also gotta say, that for the price of a Chinese DB, toss the engine and slip in a B&S or a Subie, or whatever, and you've got a pretty darned good little bike. As long as you keep it out of the elements and make sure the paint is at least touched up to where it won't rust away, it should last as long as any boonie or heath-kit or any other classic mini. [/end thread-jack]
