well i put the engine on my mini. it barely fits. the spark plug hits the frame, but thats ok, the problem is the air filter is too big and wont fit on the frame. it fits fine when i take the air filter off but i cant ride around like that. any suggestions for a air filter that would fit?

Try to make a new mounting plate. But move it up farther. That way it will fit. It might take a little more chain but it'll be worth it. and that way you could possibly mount a disc brake if that wasn't your plan in the first place. Good luck.

I have a Bird that someone moved the plate forward but it is difficult to place your feet on the pegs. For the distance you would need to move it maybe easier to mount a Tecumseh in it. I have a Briggs with a Tecumseh style carb mounted to it and it seems fine. Another option would be creating an air filter out of the twist on style found on newer Briggs. I do not know how much backward and up down distance you are dealing with. I have thought of using breather caps everytime I walk into the auto parts stores. You maybe able to adjust the plate just enough to make it work.

looks like the muffler lock ring is not screwed on (last pic), is it leaking at the engine?

That muffler didn't have a baffle in it, do the stock briggs mufflers have some sort of restrictor inside them? You could look straight through the insides.

That would explain it being LOUD! Yes stock ones have baffles and you can't see through. They are under $4

i ended up picking up a new muffler "with a baffle" and i got a new spark plug which is about a 1/2" shorter so now the engine sits flat on the plate. and the mail came today, i got my clutch, caliper, throttle cable, tire and inner tube. one problem though, i was hopeing to turn the clutch around so the sprocket side would face the engine. but the shaft on the motor is to short for the key to fit. i test fit the chain on the clutch and it looks like the chain may rub against the clutch housing. not sure yet, ill have to wait to get the sprocket and mount it to the astro wheel. im so frigging excited.
