Super Bronc Project numero dos-

I bought this super bronc about 3 years ago, and it's just been waiting it's turn patiently.. You can see that it's got all the options prettymuch that these things could come with, and i'm not sure how many of them i'll be putting back on as the project progresses. I'll only put the hitch assembly back on if I get the itch to build a small trailer for it. Right now, it's just gotten torn apart, and the engine is the first project. It's the original HM100 10hp Tecumseh, and it runs fine. I just took the engine all apart, drained the oil, and i'll clean up, repaint, and replace fasteners with stainless. I am waiting on an intake manifold for it as I want the carb accessible near the recoil instead of over top of the clutch/brake Torq-a-verter. It's just easier when warming up and messing with the choke. The seat will be re-used, the frame needs some minor welding on the rear fender brace, and the front fender needs to have a crack welded up. I've got new stainless bars from Power Tec, new wheel and torq-a-verter bearings and my fork boots and foot peg grips are all perfect. I'm working in my head on a color combination, and right now, black and chrome may be how i'd like to go. I'm really interested in getting some aluminum ATV wheels from ITP or similar on the hubs if I can find the right 4x4" bolt pattern, and then other than chroming the fenders, sprocket, fork legs, and fender braces, everything else will be black. I'm trying to figure out in my mind how this will look with the white engine though--I don't think it'll look bad as it's kinda the centerpiece for attention anyway, and it looks good in white on my other Bronc that is red and black. So, i'm undecided still.. We'll see how it comes along. Cool site, and i'll post pictures as it goes along.

And this is my first project Bronc done back in 2004--

Nice project and ideas!
Have you considered powder coating the frame black? In addition to the other parts you mention, chrome the stock wheels, engine components, for example the recoil housing and cover, air cleaner, etc.? The black and red Tecumseh decals would look good applied over chrome. I am trying to figure out a color combination also. However, I keep coming back to the red frame. I had a custom red metal flake bronco seat made with gold piping. I should get it soon. This may help me decide on the color combination. I will end up building the bike around the seat.

Well, T555, i'd like to do all the chrome, and if I do the black and chrome theme--the frame willl be powdercoated black. Chroming the wheels however is likely to be more expensive than getting some polished aluminum rims from an ATV--that's why i'd go that route. Along with getting the engine tin chromed, i'll not do that as typically, the chrome will tend to holding more heat than a regular paint coating although it'd look sharp--but again, more $$$.. I'm leaning towards black and chrome where everything will just balance out nicely-not too much shine, and not too much black--but either way, the engine will be white again by the end of the weekend--most likely. Here's some pictures of the engine as I got it striipped around 2am :-)

and the frame...

Hey guys, here are the pictures from the rest of the days activities.. All the engine and tin pieces are painted, and curing over night. Tomorrow i'll get the stainless stuff, and get everything back assembled along with a fresh fuel hose. then, I just need some fresh 30W, some stickers, and she'll be ready to fire up again! By the way, i'm currently unemployed, that's why this is coming along during the day like this. But hey, cleaning up is the free part of the project as long as you do it yourself--I had the paint from my other projects--so again, free kinda. Enjoy. By the way, i was told the front brakes don't work for shit, but i'm intent on re-installing this one, and it works in my hand fabulously, if necessary, i'll build a longer arm for the brake so that it allows more mechanical advantage, and that should cure the issue if there is one.. Anyone with vintage Tecumseh 10HP stickers?? :-)

Looking good hemifalcon - I was looking for the poslished atv wheels with an 8"x9" & 4.5" +/- offset and 4 on 4 hole pattern but I couldn't find any. Unless there is some that can make a custom one off set or if some could be drilled out for the 1/2" lugs? New hubs could be fabbed up easy too. If you look on ebay you can find tecumseh 10hp sticker sets.

Thanks Ruppster, I think i'll take one of the hubs and rims down to Nielsen Enterprises in Lake Villa, IL and see of they have any aluminum rims that'd work out.. I don't mind re-drilling the holes, but they gotta be decently priced and fit right.. I"ll let you all know what I find..

Here's the latest pictures from today, rather tonight.. $34 worth of stainless items from True Value, only thing is my carb to manifold bolts were too long, have to get more tomorrow. I tried to reference my HM80 on my other Bronc for the throttle linkage, and things are slightly different.. also, i don't have a fuel pump on my other motor--it'd probably make it easier to start if I did. Oh well, some stickers, and the engine will be done--oh, and I still have to figure out what I want to do for an exhaust.. Oh well! Also, there was no intake manifold on here before, just a small adaptor to put the carb right on the engine--not cool since I don't like fumbling around the exhaust/clutch assembly to play with the carb, so I got an intake from the local small engine place for $25 and so I'm gonna have to jockey around the linkage for the throttle/governor a bit to get everything back in check.. Oh well, that's the fun stuff.

^^ this is how I organized all my fasteners--easy.

^^ I had to make a new gasket after the old one tore apart, and cleaned off the overspray on the breather assembly.. no leaks here!

can someone help me remember what the flow path is through this pump, and which is the barb that connects to the crankcase for pumping--i made a booboo and forgot to mark it..

^^ nevermind, the left barb in the pic goes into the carb, the one pointing to the right goes to the crankcase, and the one with the elbow is the inlet from the tank.. my pictures helped me thankfully!
