My sons dodlebug project

Well, it been awhile since I talked to you all. Here is a look at what I did from my sons mini. I added a bigger engine... (6.5+HP) from a wimpy 98CC and made a custom engine plate to bolt it to the chassis. After installing the engine, I made a chain guard and painted it. Since I didn't like the blue with the red, I painted all the blue a grey color. Don't really like the way the paint came out but its for him to play with and not show. I know it will just get scratched up.

Here is the woosie engine.

Ready for the big block. :)

Size difference.

Cardboard template of chain guard mock-up.

Used plasma to cut 2 pieces out.

Welded nuts on brackets for easy removal of out side cover.

Completed engine guard with rounded corners.

If you look closely, you can see the rear has a plate to keep little fingers out.

Now when you look at the rear of the bike with the chain guard on the engine, it looks centered. Before it looked like it hung off the right side because of the chain having to line up with the sproket.

Sounds like Dad needs to buy himself a Doodlebug that he can mod...ha..ha.
I think it's great when a Dad spends time with his son working on a project.
It obviously developes a bond, and I think it teaches a son some of the mechanic skills that he can use later in life.

Nice Doodlebug! Those clutches can get pretty hot under a cover like that. It might not hurt to add some ventilation so it doesn't seize and stay engaged. Don't want junior running into the neighbors Porsche.
