Customer dropped a motorsports with a dell and lighting alternator on it for me to do a quick checkup and do a full backdated style paint job tor a rupp.

it’s new, only ran for break in, and was no really planning to pull it down more than remove a few parts for bodywork and CB paint prep.

pulled the carb/intake and header off and yanked the breather cover to strip and noticed the retainer was not sitting right!

so “off with its head” so I could inspect for damage and reset.

I went ahead and pulled both valves, no damage I could see on the stems or retainers so that was good but I was not impressed with the seating of the valves particularly the exhaust seat to valve face and how high up it sat so I carefully sealed up what I could and recut to a multi angle cut for a better fit and measurements.

This is the initial settings:

After playing with the cutters a bit and checking seat widths:

guess I better pull the sidecover as well and check the torque on the rod sidecover etc..

Should be a nice looker, just caved and paved over the numbers that were stamped on the older style shroud and have the first coat of primer to block out A349ED40-6225-42FF-8EA4-19BFD1770B04.jpeg

Good thing I popped the side cover as well, not one, but 2 loose and off seal springs were wedged between the seal and bearing

They hammered the seal all the way in. So I am betting they rolled the first seal and damaged putt it together then pulled it an hammered another on there without using the proper tool, yes there are tools for installing seals correctly. Hard running would have sent pieces of these springs through the bearing and into the engine

I do love seeing the billet rod in these

and I did dig out a still bagged rod from my stash to double check torque specs…. 130in lbs, and of course this was like 105, guess they thought it was a small frame, what am I saying, that would mean they even used a torque wrench!

Well the Dellorto is just about as much of a disappointment as the engine assembly was It's a cobbled worn-out mess. Not making it my problem though, I didnt sign on to work on it, and I spent enough free time just trying to get the worn-out float hinge and pin to kinda work so I could at least run it. Engine screams, of course will just about rip your arm off trying to start it, and the lighting system is putting out voltage so now its paint prep time....... after I ice my elbow and arm for awhile :)

Got another (stock but bored .010 etc…) on the bench to start assembling and another that came in torn down for inspection and get parts ordered, be happy to get back to some small frame engines, these H50’s are to heavy for me to lug around all over the shop :D

I want to send you one of those heavy H50 motors if you have the time and the energy for another one??? lol
