A model 13, 5 horse Briggs will bolt onto the engine plate. The 3 quart gas tank will probably hit the fender. That will nearly double your power, plus, there are performance parts for the model 13. Look for "Raptor" parts.

I use chainsaw carbs from the early sixties. Tillitson HC carbs from David Bradley carbs work well. They are not so large to allow the engine to overrev, they have throttle return springs and H/L adjustment screws. They are gravity fed, so no need to drill your reed plate.

Are you using multigrade oil? Like 10W30? Try some straight 30 or 40 weight oil. You might be surprised.
