    HS50 - What flywheel do I need?

It did cross my mind that this new crankshaft might have the taper for a CDI flywheel, but it does have the slip-on points cam, so I had ruled that possibility out. I'm optimistically still searching for the right flywheel. Thanks for posting that link in an earlier post (of which contains a...

    HS50 - What flywheel do I need?

A few months ago, I was quite involved with my HS50 restoration and making good progress. A rarity in my neck of the woods, I've had to bring in a couple of bits and pieces from the USA. One key part that I imported, was a crankshaft. My original had a 1" PTO, and a stripped thread on the...

Project Borderline - The Rusty Tru-Test Revamp (the 'Lil Indian from down under)

With plenty of projects "on the go" I've decided that now is the time to begin another. I've had this frame & forks for about 14 years now. It was rescued (much too late) from a farmers field, with almost no bolt on parts or wheels. Fast forward to today, and I've replaced large sections of...

    Survivor H35 tidy-up!

I'll be sure to snap as many pics as I can during the tidy up! I find that it doesn't seem to matter how many times you take these small engines apart, each time is just as interesting as the last in terms of what you'll find. It's almost like working out how old a tree is by its rings, a quick...

    Survivor H35 tidy-up!

I acquired this particularly tidy H35 yesterday, which was a relatively unexpected acquisition for my Monday. No complaints here though, I love original stuff! Surprisingly, this engine looks to have just cruised through the past forty-eight and a half years, still fitted with its original air...

    Bird Sprite Restoration

Progress! Stoked with how the color turned out, time to start re assembly Unfortunately, there will be a slight change of plans regarding the engine. After many hours of stripping, cleaning, repair and assembly, I found that the replacement crankshaft I’d imported down here to NZ has the...

    Bird Sprite Restoration

Thankfully, it's all pretty tight. It appears as though someone has replaced the main fork bolt in the past (which is a nice, snug fit in the neck tube). There's a small amount of play where the bolt passes through the forks, but nothing to worry about.

    Bird Sprite Restoration

Working on the bike in between breaks at work is a challenge, however I feel my efforts are beginning to pay off... Prepped and primed the frame and bars, which revealed the extent of the pitting across 80% of the steel. Spent some time filling the pitting before another few coats of high...

    Bird Sprite Restoration

More progress today! I contacted a local crowd who specialise in blasting and dipping solutions. We talked options, I settled on having the bike dipped. I prefer the finish of blasting, but I have some frame repair to do anyhow and wanted to try an option I haven't tried. So, here's a 'dipped...

    Bird Sprite Restoration

It didn't take much arm twisting to go and get this little bike the other day. This is my first USA built bike. Our domestically produced Tru-Test bikes have kept me busy over the years, so this is a neat change! Time for something a little different, I thought. My understanding is that this...

    Recent pick up

Cool Kart! If that Tecumseh engine is the original (of which it looks very likely to be), snap a picture of the engine number, which is typically stamped into the top of the blower housing, or on a metal tag attached to the blower housing with rivets. We should be able to get a pretty accurate...

    Dating Game

Cool engine! Looks as though Briggs had, at this point, introduced their standard "Model Type Code" system. This means we can look at the last section of digits (5905140) and break that down as 58 (1958), 05 (May), 14 (14th day of the month). So May 14, 1958 If my memory serves me correctly, the...

How old is your 4HP or 5HP Engine?

Thanks, Richard. This is perhaps why I could only find the exploded diagram for the model 100000 in my 1964 small engine repair manual and not that of the 130000.

How old is your 4HP or 5HP Engine?

After recently reigniting my passion for these small engines and having collected them over the past fifteen years, I have come to think of questions that seemingly have no answer. One of these questions that I cannot seem to find an answer to is, when did production begin for model 100000 and...

    Anything Goes - Jack's Ratrod Tru-Test Trike

It's time for a change of plans.....:doah: Unfortunatly, I no longer have my rear wheels due to some complications with lending them out. I will get them back, but I won't have enough time to set everything up how I would like to. But there's always a plan B! I recently bought a Honda...

    Anything Goes - Jack's Ratrod Tru-Test Trike

Thanks doc! That sets it in stone, I'll be going with a 60t rear and 12t clutch. I had this idea earlier but really needed some expert confirmation  I'll pick up some tube to make up my wheelie bars on my way home from work someday this week, but progress has been slow as I have had my...
