1962 Nethercutt prototype brake source?

I am trying to figure out where this small drum brake came from. It is on a prototype Nethercutt 2 wheel drive motorcycle.

The adjuster and pivot bolt threads are BSC (British Standard Cycle) if that is of any help. The handlebars and controls are British also. The grips are Doherty. The transmission is an Albion 3 speed. The West Bend 82001 engine is serial number 17. The bike was built in California and one of the engineers also worked for Mustang in the early 60s. The muffler and seat are Vespa.
