Looking to do a Two speed jackshaft on my Trail Horse. Found the engine clutch but where can I find the clutch for the jackshaft. Is there anything special I need to know. Thanks.

If you want it bolt on (with shaft) you need to remember to look for a long shaft with some extra length on both sides for the General appliance bikes, Not a big deal deal as they use a standard 5/8 shaft but the true comet ones had notch cuts for C clip retainers to hold the one way first gear and the 2nd gear clutch assembly. The shaft off a Gilson 2 speed is is long and good for them if you can find one.

I have some NOS and very slightly used comet 2 speeds coming available soon, I am really behind right now on getting things cataloged, photoed, researched/priced, and listed right now though so it will be next couple of weeks. I think blackwidow might have comet 2 speeds available as well as the repro maxtorque one that was linked above, pretty sure they are or were short shafts, at least he used to.

Marcus is correct (no surprise) about the the shorter original shafts that came with the notch for the C-clip retainers. Those C-clips hold the clutches in a specific position that may not work for your application. When we have purchased 2-speed units with these shafts we discard the shafts and buy a longer length of standard 5/8" keyed jackshaft (they are pretty inexpensive) and cut to length as needed. Then, to hold the clutches in place at the proper location/spacing we use shim washers, bushings and locking collars where needed.
