Recently bought a 6.5hp Briggs Vanguard (12H337-0110-B8) and it will not start. Compression is fine. I'm getting spark but the motor will not run AT ALL.
To start with, I drained all the old fuel out the tank, and added fresh gas. Checked fire with inline spark tester. Also, checked for fire at the plug. Pulled the carb off. Cleaned the carb thoroughly. All it would do is backfire through the muffler.
Pulled the spark plug again. Plug looks dry. Rinse and repeat with the carburetor. Took it back apart, everything looks good, and it appears that the carb has had a new gasket kit put in it recently before I bought it. Put the carb back on and same results.
Next I get out the starting fluid which I hate to do but desperate times call for desperate measures. Give it a good spray. Still nothing. I'm starting to get frustrated because it wont even hit a lick. Won't cough, won't bust over at all. I'm getting frustrated. Please help. Thanks in advance.
