Air filter question

#1
Hey all.

I am fixing up an old Rupp I bought on CL as a rider. It has a Tecumseh hs50 on it. The kid I bought it from had put some sort of cone air filter on it, but didn't have it when I bought it. Now I don't how to find out what size it was or where to get it.

I also wonder if I should keep this setup or go back to something more stock.

I have pictures below of both the fitting on the carb, and then intake tube which has a chrome fitting on the end the filter went into. Any advice is welcome. Thanks, Erik

That's a fancy adapter. I've never been a fan of hoses holding things on in a high vibration environment. You can measure that hose and see what size it is and find a cheap one on ebay. Or you can check the clearance in your frame and mounting area and see if you can fit one that would clamp on directly to that adapter piece.

That's the cheapest way to go, but I am a fan of original stuff (if the motor is stock) and you can find those assemblies used on ebay. I THINK HS40 and HS50 are the same, but someone needs to verify. Here are two that OldMiniBikes sells for the HS40 that might work.

Thanks, I feel loved again. Many times folks post answers and bother to do a bit of part number checking just to get blown off.

Thanks! I appreciate the help. I just pulled the carb for a thorough cleaning. Hope to have her going good in the spring. I'm sure I'll have more questions. :scooter:
