ARC Racing Top Plate/Throttle Help

I had ordered this part in the mail (ARC Top Plate/Throttle Assembly) without bothering to do my research.

This engine I want to put this on is governed but it is on a kids atv so it's already going to be limited to how fast it may go with our thumb throttle.

My main issue/question is can I still use this, remove governor and be safe enough if I limit the atv's thumb throttle? We only want the thing to go 20mph at most and we don't plan on revving the engine as high as we can get it.

You can use it to cover the area where the gas tank was. Other than that, no need.

And if it is a kids bike, why bother removing the governor?

You should be able to swap the twist for thumb throttle without modifying the carb end.

BTW, which motor?

This will be on a Predator 212cc engine I will be mounting this on.
And the reason I would remove the governor is because the engine will be used for other projects & will also be used by adults & myself (I am a teenager). I just want to know if I keep the throttle locked at a decent rpm @ around 4k rpm just like the governor would do if I would be okay (safety wise).
Like I said, I don't plan to go out and rev it and try to get it to 8k rpms. But knowing that the safe default 3,600rpm set by the governor is way below the safe level so if I don't get the throttle set to exactly 3,600/4,000rpm's I should be fine (theoretically).

IN OTHER WORDS: Limit the maximum amount of fuel that can go into the engine with the thumb throttles built in "governor" that will keep it below 4,000rpm's (screw that stops the throttle from going any further) to replace the job of the governor.

It is the one time you forget to turn the throttle stop back before the kid gets on that is the issue. Or he jumps on it behind your back.... While you are at work..... Or he figures out how to change it....

Myself, I would have a bike just for the kid. Set up for the kid.

on edit.... Hmmm. Is the youngest a teenager? Are there 8, 10, 12 yr old kids in this?

Please do not fret on safety:
  • Requires fitting key to start. (On car keychain, so when we're gone. It's not starting up).
  • Breaks are required to be locked to start.
  • Hard as hell to pull for a kid.
  • Garage is always locked with a key that's on the car keychain (When we're gone. Nobody can go anywhere).
  • The kid is already scared as hell to go fast riding with someone.

So what's the final verdict on the question I asked? Would it work?

Limiting the thumb throttle is not the same as what the governor does. If you limit the throttle to 4000 rpm without the governor the butterfly of the carb is only open so far. Hit an incline or rough terrain, the carb cannot open up to get additional air/fuel to pull you through. Hence the governor using the spring. Engine rpms increase, centrifugal force forces the governor to "pull back" and limit/level out the rpms.

There are options besides setting yourself up for a kid to get hurt.
And for the engine to work the way it was designed.

Unless you have a method on how to make the ARC Top Plate/Throttle Assembly to work with the governed throttle assembly... I'm going to remove the governor, also I said kids atv meaning that it actually is a kids atv that I stripped down. This is being built for myself and not intended for children; I'm 16 years of age.

That's what I thought would happen... What is the safe rpm zone with the stock rod/flywheel if you know by anychance? If I can't do anything about it, I'll just watch it when I use the throttle until I purchase a billet rod/flywheel. But we will be riding in mostly flat areas with some inclines, but not much.

16 and you think you know it all. Sorry, that is not the case.

I am at the point in this where I say do what you want.

Most of us on here have been around the block. Myself, 3X your age have ridden more bikes than your age. If you wish to tempt fate, I say do it.

You will learn soon enough or end up in the hospital.

I may be young, yes, I'm sorry I cannot control the time span in which you and I were born. But I'm not going to be seen as a stereotypical sixteen year old by a 48 year old that believes "I know it all."

I came here to ask a question, and get an answer; although, I ended up not doing exactly what I planned. I also highly doubt I will end up in a hospital because I had already learned long before. I've got thin steel plates welded to the outer shell of the atv to protect from anything including a broken master link, shattered rod, shattered flywheel, anything else. I have also been around the block sir. I'm taking safety precautions because I know everything that can happen, and honestly I don't feel like getting hurt. Unless you think I am mentally retarded and don't know how to hold a wrench correctly, please do not come onto my thread like this again. It's highly disrespectful and asinine, I was expecting that you, being three times my age would have known that already...

Well, I bet since you are so smart and have learned all of lifes lessons, you don't need anymore help, nor do I see you getting any.
You certainly haven't learned any manners nor have you learned any respect. :hammer: I guarantee most folks on here have forgotten more than you will ever know.
Good luck on your project and learn to follow rules and learn some respect.:hammer::hammer:

Jayson, where was I disrespectful?

I answered your question very straightforward. You apparently didn't like the answer.

Taking all those other "precautions", yet removing a primary safety item from the engine?

As for your other comments, I would expect that from a kid that hasn't been around the block yet.

On edit: Realized I forgot to put the y in your name.

I had already known that before coming to this forum. The only reason I joined was to get some help on the new Predator engines from HF. I already know the ups and downs to removing a governor and what you need to do in order to make it safe. I did read it, nothing that anyone here shouldn't have already known.

I never said I had learned all there is to life, nor its lessons it has to offer. I'm simply saying that I'm not an idiot and should not be treated like one. Also, I do have respect. Only for those who care to show some to me instead of discriminating due to age. I can clearly see that everyone has shifted thoughts after I said I was 16 years old. It just astounds me that adults still do that.
