Some may have seen this one ebay 2 weeks ago, I'm a sucker for bikes like this so I set my auction sniper and ended up winning, thankfully for much less than I anticipated. First thing I did was contact cheezy and he made me a deal on the Barris chainguard He had bought that turned out would only fit the suspension seat model.....he has a swingarm one. I just got the bike finally yesterday, Its not any nicer than it is in ebay photos. Did come with the rear axle assy that was not listed but thats it for extras.

ebay listing pics

first thing I did when I unwrapped it was take it totally apart, the fenders and shocks (I disassembled them too) got tossed in the some degreaser solution and are soaking the rust and paint off. Tommorow I will pull it all out and see "what lies beneath"

Bike is very straight and pretty clean to work with, painted red over the original white frame and silver/black bottom forks, but not really modded or damaged.....well except for what appears to be an added plate under the seat and this :doah:

something I have seen in one in every three 1" handlebar bikes I have picked up over the years, the old 7/8 throttle to 1" bar conversion!!! This ones pretty crazy, they cut and twisted the tubing to shrink it down....Ironically the throttle did not work so it was a FAIL on their part. I dug through the scrap pile and found a piece of 1" and thankfully a piece of tubing that fits for an insert/sleeve so that should be pretty easy to fix out of scraps.

Gonna need to figure out some seat measurements and what kind of engine I want to use. I have an NOS victor brake assy that some of the bikes with tablocs used, it fits the tabloc drum but I will have to mod it a little for it to fit this frame, so if anyone has the 4.25" flat plate brake available that would be cool too.

Great buy Markus. I know you will make it beautiful again. I had a Trail blazer that had the bars cut like that and had some skinny tubing stuck in there. Keep us posted:thumbsup:

I knocked out the handlebar repair yesterday:

cut off the modded end ,cut good section out of an old foot bar that was originally on a powerdyne (so at least the tubing is "period correct"...and from another Northeast USA mini bike company ), sleeved it, V shaped the cuts and welded and smoothed it out.

Will get it all smoothed when I start doing bodywork, It looks like it will all be under the twist throttle so thats a good thing, just need to keep test fitting the throttle as I go so it does not create any binding!!!!

Also had the chrome parts soaking, all the rust thats gonna come off the fenders is gone. Didn't come out pretty but they're not pitted or damaged, so painting will be easy or decent candidates for chroming. Shock springs are coming out pretty good, gotta dunk them again, there is a weird sort of caramelized rust/dirt concoction that's sticking like glue to them. Trying to keep an eye on them when they are in the cleaners I use so It does not start to loosen/flake the chrome. The cups came out pretty great though, bottoms too, they need blasted and prepped/painted of course but there is no rash or rot to repair

have not tried stripping whats on the frame/forks yet. I should try to keep at it, "ratfink396" is gonna be unavailable for a couple of weeks but is gonna hook me up with a set of his decals that he had done for these bikes a few years ago. If I was smart I'd try to bust out the paint and be ready when the decals arrive.....yea like that gonna happen :sleep1:

Big thanks to member Dan-e-boy for assisting me this week with some info/pics of the brake setups on his bikes. I found out that my victor brake plate is in fact different than the intended ones for this model. On these bikes the slot that the stay tab on the frame goes in to hold the plate is right below the brake arm, mine is virtually a copy of the Honda style where the slot and pivot are across from one another. Mine also had a long snout on it to space it off the frame, I am guessing mine was either the Quasi version or was simply the brake mech sold for one of the Z50 copy bikes being built in the 70's.

Kind of a bummer, but when life gives you lemons..... after looking over danny's great shots he sent me and a little measureing I can make mine work, I hacked the snout down on the plate and started fitting it up:

Here Danny's bike for comparison:

While I hate to stray from the original, it will still look the part, has the vitor stamp in the same location as danny's and the same arm as well. I am going to cut the welded on washer/tab you can see on the outside of the bike and put it on the inside and set the tab to around the 9 o'clock position to go in the slot of the brake plate. Its kinda "original" still

Im hoping that when I move to Florida in the next year of two I will be able to see these works of art in person.
I'll probably need a place to live in a year or so...buy a house with a spare bedroom and big garage and you can look at them (and me:anon.sml:) all the time

Chipper, I wont make it to LA this time around.

Johnny, yes, they are Stellar based...well Republic corporation at that point.

Great find. I noticed you don't have a kickstand assembly pictured. I'm also missing mine. Any idea what stand assembly will work or came on the bike. My dad bought my Barris for me in 1970? I rembereber taking off the stand years ago.

Tell ya what.
We are making a couple batches to sell at the fling. They will be sealed in quart jars. OK to not be refigerated.
I bet we could figure out a way to get a quart to Florida for your summer enjoyment.

Maybe a trade. Don't you have a old rusty Bonanza sitting in a box stuffed away somewhere??

We'll send ya some. PM me your address.

MMMMMMM Keep me posted on the sauce!!!

Big old THANK YOU to Dan K (ratfink396) for hooking me up with some more Super stocker decals!!! I had a set from him a few years ago when I was going to make an attempt to clone one but had chickened out on the project and sold them off for what I paid to another member that is building an SS. when this bike came up I crossed my fingers that he still had some stashed away and he did

Another member Dan B is working on setting up with a guy he knows right now to get some frames blasted so I have the SS and my Fox campus stripped and ready and hopefully can get them done along with the frames Dan needs to get done. I hate have the extra $$ out of the budget but I hate stripping paint even more!!!

Well Dan B got my frames blasted for me and back here to the shop...thank you again buddy:thumbsup:. Was a little snafu and he forgot to drop the forks with the frames but no biggie there since on this bike the forks on the SS were silver and frame was white so Even if I do get to paint before the forks get back its no big deal.

So I am going over the bike and getting whatever needed corrected so I can paint it, One thing was the brake as stated in previous posts. Once i got the frame back I cut original brake stop off the outside lower frame rail, cleaned it up and relocated it to the insude of the upper in the correct position for my brake plate

how it originally sat which did not work with my brake plate:

new position:

brake on the bike now:

Good thing is I can still use the through frame hole that holds the brake cable in place.....and again thanks to Dan-e-boy (everyone with the name Dan is helping me with this bike ) for pointing out thats what that hole as actually for or I would have thought it was some random hole a PO had drilled and I would have welded them shut :doah:

Bike came out pretty clean, there is some pitting like somethign caustice had dripped onto the frame sometime down the line, noting real serious, will just have to fill and block that area out. I welded up and reshaped the chain hole in the plate from rash but other than that its pretty smooth sailing,

I would feel better with a little more travel on the seat pan so it does not bottom out on the frame. I am using the longest set of lowers for the sebacs shocks I am rebuilding for the bike, got some junkers on there for testing right now. I think I am going to fill the holes for the shocks on the seatpan and redrill them lower, I can't get much, and I want to keep it pretty level still, but any little bit will help!

Got something done on this, When I had a set of wheels for another ongoing project recently powdercoated, I gave my guy the upper bars to do as well. The "wheel silver" was pretty close to the the original silver that I had found on the forks in some spots. This ended up actually being cheaper for me to have these parts powdered than for the cost of paint, primers, and supplies to do them. Frame on these bikes were white, I already have some single stage Dupont white I am going to spray that in.

Dan Kendall's reproduced decals look Great on there.....and yes I need to dress and polish the bolts up still, I cant make much noise for a couple days so I have not got much done
