Bonanza MX1310TC

#1
I wanted to do a build log on my Bonanza MX1310TC. I don’t recall seeing much on this model on the forum. The frame is the MX frame with the tall jack shaft plates. I started when I found a roller a couple hundred miles from where I was living about 8 years ago.
I saw it on Craigslist one night after dinner and told the guy I would be right there. Collecting parts took years. The hardest part to get ahold of was the clutch cover witch I just found one a couple months ago. My bikes so far have been restomods. I try to be as true to the original but since all the bikes I have done have started as rollers or just finding a parts until you gave enough to build something original is not possible . I also like a little extra bling to personalize it. I have mainly been into Honda minis witch are considered mini cycles more that mini bikes but this site has been pretty tolerant of letting us coexist. I want to be able to ride this a lot so I want it to be reliable. I found a nineties NOS engine in the box on Craigslist a few years back that is a Tecumseh 4hp.Marcus gave me some pointers on backdating the motor for a more authentic look so I did more parts collecting. Now it’s ready to start. B31563EC-7001-4657-B9BE-C0DB9ACFA998.png

The good news in taking so long to find all the parts is the money I spent was also spread over several years so I spent it when I had it and took care of all the refinishing in advance. Karen did the seat I think a couple years ago. The rechroming and powder coating also done. The motor, clutch cover and some shock parts will still need paint.
So the mock up has begun and the fabrication is started. Fortunately I have a expert in the Mini bike world taking on the challenge, Cattailshass (Roger). The first issue is that the torque converter set up did not line up for whatever reason. The fix was making a crank extension and a spacer. Now the alignment is perfect. The jack shaft was trimmed to the proper length and the snap rings installed. =full]274852[/ATTACH] View attachment 274853 B35058F8-487D-47BA-9D4B-F34BCCFE9207.jpeg 83EAD382-8F35-4007-B974-FEAD2109BD92.png View attachment 274852 View attachment 274853

Really cool for those hard to find parts. View attachment 274852 View attachment 274853 View attachment 274854 View attachment 274857 View attachment 274852 View attachment 274853

Here is the replacement NOS Tecumseh 4hp.have to update the shroud and do some modes on that. Adding a recoil cage and a serial number tag. This one will clear the new style ignition and still look old school. The pebble texture tank is being replaced with a smooth side fill. More pictures to come. 7297187E-21D0-43BF-B293-80A6C3BC4EE0.png AAB69C17-64C9-4AA3-BC5F-298727627F53.png

More progress, stopped by Rogers today. The shroud is getting transformed to look a little more period correct. You hard core Tecumseh people will always be able to tell the differences but hopefully you respect the effort. A fill in plate was created so a serial plate can be attached. The English wheel came out for this step. Recoil studs removed and extra stud on top of the shroud. Cage test fitted. The exhaust has also been built. This is not oem to the model but still Bonanza and I really like it on this bike. I think I got the pipe from Dave Miller years ago but can’t remember.Roger made the flange and the 45 degree short pipe. Also the nice step up cone flange to attatch to the bling. Not sure yet on the finish going on Rogers work.
KAREN the seat in this picture is the oem seat you redid for me a couple years . Its not mounted yet so it should show up better in future pics when it gets to that point. FA0734AD-E81B-45B9-9DF6-19B0E953EC5B.png 2151B0EC-3E6B-4A1F-9A00-6434A9328517.png 7A1D9622-15AF-42A5-8C6C-6F9F3FB170A4.png

Lookin' good...can I ask why you went out the left side with the exhaust ala H engine instead of the right like they did on the HS engines? Not judging, just curious.

No issue judging. I looked at both options and based on a lot of pictures of all kinds of bikes my preference was to run it out the left.I really like the look of the BC1300‘s I have seen with the same pipe same side. I think there is already a lot more going on on the right side of this bike. That’s whats cool about doing a restomod you can tweek things to your personal preference.

I hadn't even thought outside the box figuring it was best to not cross over the carb, my factory exhaust manifold is stubby and 45s right off the block.

Looks like he made the exhaust manifold turn up high enough and out further than originals to better clear the carb.

I stopped by Rogers shop last week. All of the fine tuning is complete on the Torque converter, converter cover, jack shaft and exhaust. More work done on the shroud cover. Waiting on the temperature to warm up so paint can go on the motor, TC cover and some of the shock parts. Also made brackets for the TC cover.pull start repositioned to pull from the top like a mini bike should. 169ADDD0-19DE-4E4D-9ECC-E648A4A5573E.jpeg EDDDF516-EB31-487B-AF34-4A23D0E38BC3.jpeg 8A2882E4-ABE8-424E-B725-D9ED122DEAE5.jpeg F50493C7-136E-4C0D-81E3-3D65A90275B0.jpeg

Got over to Roger’s yesterday and we had a chance to chip away on the bike. It looks about the same but got things more squared away. Both wheels got put together with the proper hardware and aired up.the forks got the springs lubed and installed.Zinc plated sprocket, brake plate ,spacer installed. We had to flip the rear tube around on the rear wheel and that was a real pain in the ass gett the 50 year old NOS double Indian tire off the rim. Finally came off with no damage to anything.
Looking Good. I can relate to taking a couple years to find all the correct parts. Chrome can take a chunk outta your wallet.
