Century Speed Kart...

Here's something you don't see very often. The steering wheel says "Century Speed Kart Mark I". It's been stored in a barn at my parents house for atleast 25 years. I have it now and am in the process of getting it running again.

That is unusual and worth saving. Looks like the Speed Kart Mark 1 was manufactured in Galion, Ohio by Century Speed. According to an online search they built karts from 1959-1962. Here is an ad for it:






Looks like it had a Clinton Panther 2 stroke on it originally.

And before anyone asks.. no, it's not for sale.

Trying to find a Panther would be a good challenge to make the kart more period correct, but I can't quite get myself into yanking that Briggs off it quite yet.

I grew up in Galion, Oh and watch these being built. The designer offered it as a lighter and faster alternative to the Rupp Trak Rabbit which was built about 15 miles away. Yours is a center mount, single engine. They also offered a right or left or dual engine version.
