Just answered a question like this.

It's usually in the carb, intake, or port opening, and even can be a loose spark plug.

There is most likely a leak somewhere. What you can do is start the motor and let it idle. Then spray carb spray in those areas without spraying any in side of the carb. If the motor idle raises up, or trys to die out then that's where your leak is.

I sprayed carb cleaner and did not find any leaks.I ran for awhile yesterday and noticed it runs very rich.Is there any adjustments on this carb?

Generator motor's surge from the carb. If it has a thumb tab or a venturi raise the idle and hold it for a minute and see if the motor stabilizes? They are meant to do this, it does not sound defective.

Make sure there are no air bubbles in the fuel line. Change it out to clear or one color i.e. red, yellow ect. Make sure there is enough oil in the motor. I assume the gas is new>?

I've had 3 generators, and never had one surge. Reset the governor. Another thing that you could check...see if there's a hidden lo speed jet hidden on it anywhere. Sometimes they're even covered with a sticker from the factory. If you find one, remove it, spray it out with carb cleaner, and re-install. If neither of those work, pull the float bowl...see what you find. Scott.
