DB30 Stock 97 cc Engine Question

#1
I just recently inherited an old style (metal fenders) DB30. I'm trying to understand the purpose of the small black tube that goes from the back of the air filter into the side of the engine. What is it? What is it's purpose? Since it is connected to the air filter, does that mean it is sucking in air through the air filter?

The image below is a top down look at the air filter and carburetor.

Thanks,

Dusty

Thanks for the replies. So if I was able to figure out a different air filter set up (something like is used on the clone engines) what would need to be done with this tube? Are there any aftermarket air filter set-ups to replace the factory one?

No aftermarket air filter set-ups to replace the factory one that I know of. You could vent to the outside by just putting a small filter on the end of the tube or tap it back into the new air filter you fab up.
