Grandpas Scooter

#1
Hi, I'm Voltron63, and I have began to rebuild a scooter that my grandpa built back in the 60's from scratch. I've been learning a lot going through this bike, I have found out just how creative he was in building it. It's been staring at me from the back of my garage for the last 15 years, this year I decided to start working on it. I decided to upgrade it a little bit with a new motor and torque converter. I hope to get it finished and looking as good as it used to and hope to make my grandpa look down in pride and be happy with with my efforts.
Sorry about the blurry videos in places, working on upgrading to a better camera.

Welcome:thumbsup: Cool old scoot! That thing needs a large end fill cylindrical tank mounted cleverly atop the OHV engine for that classic look is what it needs. The larger ones go for much less than the 3" diameter ones.

Thanks for welcome everyone! :scooter:
Outlaw Ace, I think you're right, a large round tank would look classic there.
I worked on it a little tonight and did some drilling, filing and grinding. I got the torque converter lowered a couple of inches, I resized the chain and everything seems to fit and line up. If I have some free time tomorrow, I'll see if I can get it fired up and see how everything works. If it goes alright, I'll start working on the rear tire, that's a whole project in itself! Grandpa did a lot of machining on it.

Just bought a brand new chain for it last night and fired it up. Scared the crap out of me, and wondering why it was so loud, and then I remembered why, I had taken the muffler off! :doah:
I ran it for a little bit and nothing flew off, so I'll take that as a good sign.
Afterthought, does anyone know if there is a magazine published for mini bikes?
