Installed the Hi-po head gasket and final assembled the engine yesterday.
Only able to do a quick test fire on the bench.
So here's the skinny on the head gaskets:
Stock metal-cork-metal gasket: .078" thick
Replacement "graphite gasket: .066" thick
Hi-po aluminum gasket .024"Thick
No sure how much the metal-cork gasket compresses, but the stock replacement gasket may give a small bump in compression.
The Hi-po head gasket does clear the HS-50 piston. (just barely)
and leaves the valve with just over .020 clearance to the head with a stock cam. Hopefully no clearance issues as long as there is no valve float!
