Honda Z50 frame?

#1
I need some help with my Honda Z50 K2 frame. Can anybody tell me if this top race (see photo) is part of the factory frame or does it need to be knocked out and replaced. It appears to be 8A1A959C-81D7-42C1-B486-7765990CA2C8.jpeg 33E3265A-27D7-4CF9-B6ED-522446DD0172.jpeg part of the frame, but I don’t think it is. Also, on the steering stem, is the race (see photo) a replaceable part or is it part of the steering stem? If they are replaceable, are the parts available. Thanks in advance.

If they are not loose or pitted, I would leave them there. You might do more damage trying to remove them.
To answer your question, I do not know if they do actually come off the frame.

I'm no expert, but I believe they are part of the neck and the steering stem. Usually the ball bearings are loose. They are held in place with grease during installation.

Thanks for the advice. I decided to spray them down with some Kroil penetrate and let them soak overnight. I will give them a tap today to see if I get any movement. If they don’t want to move with little effort I am going to leave them alone. I really want to get them off so I can get the frame powder coated.

They’ll come out. On restored originals, you have those stand out as bright metallic against the painted frame. You could mask them for paint if you had to I suppose. Also, #6 would typically stay with the forks when you disassemble the front end from the frame.

Thanks again. Just gave them a few raps. #3 does not want to budge and #6 looks even harder to access and remove. The risk/reward ratio is not in my favor. I am going to leave them alone and move forward with sand blasting. As much as I like the look of the bright metallic against the painted frame, it is not that big of an issue.

Much appreciated.

The races tap out of the frame quite easily with a drift and a decent sized hammer.
I would recommend you replace them as they are likely notched and will affect handling even with new balls installed.
You will also have to replace the top and bottom at the same time.
https://chpmotorsports.com/ has the best selection and inventory for the older K0-K2 Mini Trail's.

Please inspect the frame for cracks after sandblasting.
Where the chain passes over and under the cross member is a common place for cracks and the motor mounts right at the frame is another spot to look at.

Thanks for the advice on the potential cracks in the frame. I will take a look. chpmotorsports does not have the races in stock and said they have had a hard time sourcing them. Since I can't get the part, I think I am going to just leave them in the frame.
