How about a timing advance?

#1
Another useful item I've fabbed up is a timing advance for my Briggs motors. I have used offset keys before and they work okay but offer no adjustability. So I found that there's a place on the block under the flywheel to mount a pivot and attach the coil to. Here's the pieces I made up. I mounted a lever to the fuel tank to move the mag, but a handlebar lever would work fine also.

This is the assembly ready to put on the motor.

This particular 5hp Briggs has an 8hp flywheel adapted to it with a chrome cover i added.

Retard for easier starting and advance on the fly for some more rpms.

It depends on the crankcase configuration. If there's a round boss concentric to the PTO that you could attach the sheet metal plate the ignition module mounts onto, then yes, I thing it would. The key is to keep the air gap between the module and flywheel consistent throughout the arc.
