i hope that crossreferance is right.
btw....some of those 2.5hp engines just have a choked off intake manifold....still 2.5 inch bore

I just checked my version of the manual and they're showing the '82 and earlier at 2.3125 bore. Same stroke as the 35's. :shrug:

Uh oh....im thinking of the two differant 3.5hp displacments, I was thinking one of those may have been fitted with smaller carb and such.

I am the guy that sold him the engine, and I bought it as a TEC H35...and the number on the engine is 143-581002 (NOT 143-581022) which is the crossreference to the 2.5hp being discussed here. As I told Jamie..if it is INDEED a 2.5hp engine I'd gladly refund him. BUT, as was stated as well, this is an older engine, and most likely has the 3.5hp displacement, again as dicussed here.

Spoke with Dan on the topic and i will have to double check the Model: and Serial Number again. It's always possible a mistake was made on my behalf. No blame or fingers were pointed......Just want to claify the HP rating.

143-581022 is definitely a H25 (2.5 HP)
I cannot locate 143-581002 on any of my Sears Craftsman/Tecumseh cross reference charts.
One way to tell for sure is by taking the head off and measuring the cylinder bore-
H25= 2.31"
H35= 2.50"
