Is it an 8hp?

I bought this with 3 other engines for $35. I notice it did not come with a name tag on the side of the tin. I think it might be a Briggs 8hp being that's what the guy said it was.

Since the head is off, measure the bore diameter, then turn the crank so the piston is all the way down and measure how far down the piston went. I have a chart around here somewhere that would tell what it is.

Yours does have the same head bolt pattern as my 8hp. I also have a 6hp and it has a different head bolt pattern.

Likely an eight but could be a 6 or 7hp. You can see it was a snowblower engine from the recoil shield.

Because it has 8 head bolts, I can tell you it is a 6hp. The 7hp and 8hp had 9 head bolts.

It has 9 head bolts. The first picture is a 3hp,it was the wrong picture

Look on the left front corner of the head (between the fins). 17 = 7hp 19 = 8hp

I found a 17 on the bottom of the head. So I guess it's a 7hp
