LSC's Draggin Bars (Wheelie Bars)

#41
Gerald, I have never messed with drag bike bars, but I was the suspension guy on a 1000 HP door slammer for a season.

No springs on the bars. Bars were marked with chalk and checked for chalk wear and adjusted as necessary after each run.

Conditions requiring adjustment- changing tire pressure. (We ran around 8 PSI) Track temperature, engine performance based on air temp, or barometric swings, or traction issues. All of the above go hand in hand. IE if anything changes between runs, everything changes on launch.

Bars were never used to control wheel stands, but to compensate to build traction. Definitely adjusted them separately as yours are. Initial settings are tricky, but once you get them dialed in using the chalk as a reference, a lot of problems go away such as torque lean on the launch, and tire spin.

The bars at static were very close to the ground. Too close, and inherent squat on launch broke traction. That's my two cents-worth. I think you've built something viable there, and will no doubt see improved launches if tire spin, or excessive/uncontrolled wheel stand or side ways launches are a problem. With the vids I've seen here, a lot of guys appear to be riding the bars the entire 1000'.

Nice job as usual.
awesome info thanks

What Dave said is correct. Chalk is the way to go specially when trying to launch straight when using bars, just got to make sure you don't have them too high either otherwise when you come up on the bars you with them with such force you unload the tyre. But to confuse you further when your rear tyre gains traction the diameter shrinks but if you start to spin the tyre (which can be acceptable when drag racing for many reasons) it grows therefore lowering and raising your bar height... Its all trail and error.

Not that you will have a wrinkle wall tire, but you can see what Andrew C was talking about in this video. I wish he kept the wheelie bars in frame longer..
nice!
yes, i understand the concept... i have a drag car project too and i like seein those vids... gonna need wheelie bars on mine too... i wont be making the bars on that though... lol... this bike may not even need them... with the billet head gx200 goin on it... but the 490 stroker will for sure need em... those are gonna be made out of chromoly and tig welded up... still not sure if the jr dragster tire going on that bike will wrinkle, but i want the bars to be nice, my friend has done some drag cars and will be making those bars for that bike...
