Mont. Ward 424 plug coil?

#1
I just recieved a freebie 424 and am in the process of getting it going, as it doesn't currently run. I have clean the carb, checked oil and gas, pulled it, but nothing. I checked to make sure the spark plug was....sparking, and nothing. I put the plug in one of the coils on my motorcycle, hit the start button and the plug sparked like new. I'm thinking the coil is bad, but when digging down to check the coil's overall condition I found that the mechanism that connects to the side of the engine which the pull mechanism connects to, is covering where the spark plug coil connects to. When you connect the socket to the interior of this mechanism the whole thing spins and i'm guessing without a special tool, or at least an impact gun, this may be an issue. Does anyone have any experience in changing a plug coil on an old 424 or similar minibike?

Okay, here is a pic of the engine with a lot of the extras taken off. The plug coil goes back behind and down next to the lower part of the engine.

I'm thinking it's a briggs and stratton 4.5 hp, late 60s model perhaps?. Anyone have any suggestions about getting back to where the coil connects?
