I have to say, flying into arresting gear on a pitching deck would be bad enough. Having to sit there and watch the driver do it would be torture.
I was on Camden for her final year before decommissioning. Sad thing to do. Decommissioning a perfectly good ship.
Camden made two trips through the Panama Canal. Both times east to west. First time just after she was built to go to her first homeport, and the second, on her final cruise.
She could still do the same 33 knots as when she was built.
While stationed in Corpus Christi at NRMC, a group of us were asked ro fly out to the Lexington. I have my honorary tailhooker certificate.
I was scared to death, both landing and leaving.
