Need a little advice on my HS50 carb.

I'm in the process of cleaning up and painting a HS50 for my JC Penneys/Bird Mini. The question I have is can I plug the nipple for the primer? Will the bike start and run OK without the primer?

No you cannot plug that it needs to stay open.

I drill out the upper vent hole to same size as a non primer style if I need to cap that line off for the application

Top right is the stock sized vent hole when a primer is not used, bottom is a primer carb like yours with an unaltered vent, top left is one I drilled out and capped the primer inlet.

Can you tell me what size drill you use? I don't have an old carb sitting around to measure.

But I do have one question? What symptoms would this present if I were to cap off the primer nipple and not enlarge the vent hole in the carb body?

What are you doing to convert a "snowblower carb" if I might ask?

bigger chance of it siphoning/flooding thru the jet, never got past that so I could not tell you if it has ill effects during Running operation.

Glad you're still lurking around! I'm beginning to believe you are right about using a primer. The Trail Bike starts right up but needs to have the throttle opened more than it should until it warms up....a little bit of surge and the bike lurches forward.

The red paint would hint at it being from a Craftsman snowblower. I bet the snowblower itself was painted silver right?

It was a long time ago but, I think it was silver.
