Hey guys - very now to this. I have been thinking about building one for a couple years. Looks like a blast. I have been considering the TAco22 and Bonanza frames. Both look great. Also like the Murray Track 2 frame but can't find one. Am I on a good track or a slave to advertising? Better ideas? Thanks!

Welcome to OldMiniBikes.
No one has one hanging at the Mercada?

I'm sure you have searched craigslist?
Scrap yards.
Word of mouth.
Be willing to add shipping to the cost of your purchase. Oh joy.
I hate shipping but, am stuck in mini bike wasteland.
Unlike the midwest where, if you can get there befor cheezy or jeep.

Good luck and I am sure you could run a wanted ad and someone might help ya.
Check the for sale section on here.

Odds are, if there is something in particular you want, you're in the right place. A want ad in the classifieds will get you some answers. If you're just looking for any old bike, keep watching CL. I checked out of curiosity, and the only thing that came up were a Bird Thunderbird and a Manco Thunderbird (not at all related). Both seemed a little steep for an initial investment.

What sort of riding are you wanting to do? On road or off-road? Do you want full suspension, half suspension or a rigid frame? Big tire or small tire? Big bike or a small bike? I've owned an array of bikes and I've found that if I'm actually going to ride it, I need it to be a larger frame with either full suspension for my back's sake, or have larger tires that absorb some of the shock when riding off road. It all comes down to personal preference.

Some bikes are easier to find parts for too -- ARCOs and Birds seem to be plentiful. Cats do too, but some parts are really difficult to find (footpeg covers, clutch cover, etc). Some are really desirable and normally command a higher price, like Rupps or Bonanzas. I suggest doing some research and find the one that best fits both your ass and your budget. Doing a true restoration can put you in the poor house on the wrong brand or model.

Thanks for the replies. I race motocross, so my intitial thought was a pit bike for at the track. My guess right now is 6 or 8 inch wheels. Mostly offroad. They also have some mini bike races in Austin in April that sound fun. My thoughts were at least front suspension if not full suspension, but I do not know enough about the suspension to know if it would be worth the extra weight. I restore old MX bikes so I am sure I will go totally overboard as usual.

WOW! I just saw a different Taco frame. There was what looked like a 44 and a 66. SWEET! Anyone know where to get these? Love the rear suspension.
