I am not an expert by I listen carefuly to how people speak and words used.

I have learned that in many repsects the north east Yanky accent is more true to the roots of modern english pronounciation than what is commonly spoken in the UK.

I also speak yanky...
Maybe a slightly older dialect with some odd French borrow in there.
I have flattened out it out close to standard Northern yank as I can.
But some of the great vowel shift can still be heard in words like " About ".
This did not happen in the USA
To a lesser extent it was supressed ( by American English ) but not completely in Canadian English....

To my ear I can hear a change in US english these days.
Its all in the ear.
