Put a starter on a Heald VT-8 ... 5 second video ..

My daughter has a hard time pull starting her 8hp Tecumseh.

I got a 7hp tec with a lighting coil and a starter ring but the bore was shot.

I had a 6hp tec, it was a good candidate. I put in a new piston, rings, lapped the valves, ground the head .030, new carb. The lighting coil, flywheel and the starter from the 7hp went on the 6hp.

Got a battery, wired it up to a pushbutton .. and ...

The 6hp is a bit smaller than the 8hp that was on there .. (H50, H60 & H70 share the same footprint) ...
My one concession was I had to drill 4 new holes in the mounting plate.

The 8hp Tecumseh is on the shelf where is will be saved for the day it goes back on its frame.

The bike starts like you would hope it would and tho you can feel a difference between the 8hp and the 6hp its not enough to make a big difference in how it will be ridden.
It was a fair trade off.

She now has a bike with a starter and lights.
To charge the battery I bought a float charger from Harbor Freight.

Its permanently wired to the battery to be plugged in to the charger when its not being used to keep the battery topped off.

The battery was $31 delivered from eBay .. WPS 12N7-4A Conventional 12V Standard Battery with Acid Pack | eBay
