Most trucks from late 1990s until early 2020s are prone to rusting. My 92 Ranger fought rust fairly well but eventually rusted through. Front shock mounts and rear leaf spring hangers all rusted out. I replaced all that stuff and hung on until it finally wore out. Sort of like patching up machine wounds. Can’t patch them fast enough. Here in PA the rusty frame will not pass our annual safety inspection

I purchased a small custom built aluminum box trailer and built it for day tripping. Wife and I travel together and she prefers a few creature comforts. Built trailer to suit or requirements. First priority is camping toilet and small wash sink. Took picture of rusted rear bumper before I transport it to scrap salvage. Rusted right through entire bumper. Cheap eBay bumper was sprayed with vinyl bed liner underneath to retard future rust. This turned into one heck of a project, but I’m hoping to hang on to this truck a few more years. All body panels were sprayed with aerosol preservative spray and bed was removed for better access. Replaced original catalytic converter and exhaust system while truck was apart. Catalytic converter was starting to fail so it got the heave ho. Stainless exhaust and hardware should outlast the rest of truck. Most of undercarriage was scaled with needle scaler and wire brush and coated with bedliner vinyl spray. Reckon you never stop rust completely but I’m trying to slow it down long enough to get a few more years from this old soldier.
