There is 2 holes because it's supposed to plumb back into the intake to create a positive crankcase ventilation. I also suggest stuffing stainless steel scour pads (NOT steel or copper) down in that can to the incoming oil something to stuck to and separate out instead of just being sucked back into the intake. Most higher end cans have baffles in them for that purpose.
I'll add you can use steel or copper pads but even covered in oil they will corrode. If you do use them don't pour the oil back into the engine.
