I had to use a heat gun to repair mine. Not hard at all, just have to be carefull with the heat gun warning the board up. Also if you do repair it, chang the x clamps to screws to hold the heat syncs on. How old is your xbox 360, it may still be under the extended warrenty for that problem 3 years I believe.

i've had this one for a couple of years. i found a local place that will fix it for about $70 and it comes with a 30 day warranty. i'm going to check them out this weekend. if they can't fix it, they won't charge. i'd rather do that before buying a new one.

i'm not willing to wait 2+ weeks for it if i send it to MS either. i've done that before and that's too long for me.

You are not the only one that hates to send them in. My friends always keep a spare around incase we need to barrow it, waiting on repairs.

i might send it in to M$. if i don't do that, i found a local place that will fix the RRoD for $70 with a 30 day warranty.

i'll probably get impatient and just buy a new one.

dont be stupid. fix it yourself my friend got one for free cuz it had the red ring. he wraped it in towels and pulugged it in for like 45 min and then let it cool for 2 hours. that was it red ring was gone. you basicly overheat the xbox to melt the solder inside to fix the connections. it will be a shame if you spend any money. look up how to fix the red ring on google and a bunch will come up.

Strigoi, there is a how to fix on line (with pic's) http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/ring_of_light_x-clamp_fix.htm

However if you tamper with the seal, it's out of warranty for good.

My boy's went out but it was under extended warranty, they send you a pre paid self addressed box with padding molded for the xbox and it even came with tape.(very professional) you pay nothing and just drop it off anywhere to ship.

His went out again after only a few hr's but they sent another box but this time it has held up a long time.

it was still under warranty from Microsoft and the box for it should be here tomorrow. it will be getting fixed for free.

i had to send in my first 360 that i bought after 6 months because it quit reading discs and they just sent me a different one (which is the one that red ringed).

once this one gets fixed, i'm just going to let my roommate use it.

Sending it to MS to get repaired, even if it costs money, is not stupid. Half-assing it at home by overheating the electronics to achieve an uncontrolled solder reflow, however, is. Overheating is one of the suspected causes of the RRoD condition. Besides that, you stand a good chance of nuking something that wasn't broken. :eek:ut:

So far I haven't had much trouble with the hardware in my Microsoft game box, but then again, nothing in it was made by or for MS.

normally i would benefit form your ignorance but i wouldnt be able to make enough money. microsoft will repair "red ring of death" for free including shipping and give you 3 month warranty after repair. they will send you box and shipping label. mine came back to me within 3 days of being shipped out.
