Tecumseh 2 Stroke Engine Mounting

#1
I've got a 2 stroke Tecumseh engine I pulled out of a Toro snowblower a few years back and I was toying with the idea of putting it on a mini bike. Does anyone make mounting plates for these? It has the 4 bolt holes around the output shaft and 2 on the bottom for mounting.

I made my engine mount out of 3/16 mild steel and just used the three bolts around the output shaft (I recall the top bolt was broken off, not sure why - I just used the three bolts and seemed to work fine). I think this was a 3hp 2-stroke off a snow blower.

That looks like what I would need, my problem is I don't have a welder so I can't really make one so I was looking for one I could buy.

There is always Craiglists and Harbor Freight as well as Christmas is right around the corner :). The 110v welders on argon work well, but they can also work well with .030 flux wire.

I would almost guarantee they bolt up like the West Bends and Power Products do. I assume you're referring to the four bolt holes around the PTO. All of that stuff is standard.

If you keep after Ebay, you can find some decent variations. Here is one used. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...0001&campid=5335845805&icep_item=382565607964

You can find vintage ones in cast aluminum, as well as aftermarket repops that mimic the early mini bike applications on Go Kart Cycle, Flexo, etc.

Thanks, I'll check that out. The mounting looks the same but I bet it'll need some modification. Then I just need a frame to put it on!

All of those engines, from the 1950's Power Products, to the West Bends, to the Briggs to the Tecumseh's, all have that same four bolt PTO foot print.
I'm just not sure its the same pattern because I have a much later engine. I contacted the seller on ebay and it looks like that plate, presumably that standard bolt pattern, is about a half inch smaller than what I would need, and it also seems my engine needs that pattern but rotated 45°

Those later Tecumseh 2 strokes ''with out reed valves'', are great engines,, & pretty much bullet proof, as long as you don't starve them for oil in the mix.
Ones I worked on had needle bearings on both ends of the rod.
I just restored a Snapper single stage snow blow from the 90's, that has this engine, & it still has the cross hatch marks, & great compression !!
Been running ''Tru fuel'' 40 -1 ,& it loves it !
