Top Speeds

I couldn't help but notice several posts today on how fast a particular minibike goes. Should we post some top speeds?

My personal was 52mph on my 1970 CT70.

I was 14 yrs old.

That was hanging on to the 10ft spring loaded CB radio mast of my buddys Barracuda....

Wasn't Darwin supposed to take me out by now?

there are several posts about this already but new ones are always fun.

i got my DB up to 42.xmph this weekend on the GPS. it's not tuned right (starts breaking up on the top end) and the 70t rear sucks. it has plenty of power to go faster. it will get up to that speed in about 250' or less.

it's faster than my friend's DB with the 110cc Lifan and 4spd (he will top out higher than me with enough space). once i do my next setup for the DB none of my friends will be able to even come close to me.

being gear limited right now sucks. i can't wait for more power and a smaller rear, i'll be happy once i get 55-60mph.

btw, unless your mph is done on a GPS it's a guess at best.

extra btw, i think the fastest i got the Cat up to was 37mph. i don't like minis with suspension so that was plenty for me.

I can't really say how fast I've been on a mini, but I did ride a friends when I was a teenager. It was homemade, with a square tube frame, and a Cushman engine of some sort with a fluid clutch. It was fast enough to make your eyes water. Fun Fun Fun!

The GPS was just 3 letters from the alphabet back in 1967, and I know my little Flexo Big Bear Scrambler with a McCulloch 6 and twin flat back carbs on a Gem reed box would do every bit of 50 to 60 MPH with brakes good enough for 30 MPH .
Riding down U S Highway 80 out side of El Centro, California I was flat out and coming the other way was a CHP Trooper in a big Dodge. And I took the Flexo into the ditch and hid for 30 t0 40 minuets in the bull rush growth in a road side creek. He went back and forth looking for me before he gave up. This was the day after the big dog knocked me for a loop on the same mini. I would buy that mini bike back in a flash for 10 times what I sold it for.

I always wanted one of the old 2 stroke minibikes. Those old Mcculloch engines put out some power. I would like to see what they could do with some open road.

So put one on an old Mini. Right or wrong...one of my current projects is a Bonanza BC1300 that will get a Clinton E65 Kart motor.

Here's an article about a Bonanza with a WB610. Notice the date 1962. I didn't know Bonanza was building Mini's then. And the forks are like I've never seen either.
