Trisport gearing HELP

#1
I have a alsport trisport with a hacked in 340 that after a few hours of work runs horribly..

So I spent the day with the plasma cutting and grinding off all the junk that was poorly welded on to the frame to make that engine fit and now I am down to the jackshaft and motor plate.

I have a new 6.5 hp honda and also a few new clones that can go in but will need a sprocket on the jackshaft and a clutch, I have a new 12 tooth clutch so now i am down to wondering what size sproket would go on the jackshaft??

the jackshaft as of now is 2 to 1 , so I am thinking 48 tooth on the jackshaft??

Several questions. What style tri-sport is it, what tires, is it the stock jackshaft setup? I'm also guessing that you are not going to run a torque-converter.
The stock diff has 54t and 10 on the jackshaft. Is that what you have? I dont understand your 2 to1 statement. Because 12t clutch to 48t j/s to 10t to 54t diff is a 21.6:1 ratio. That will take off great but only run about 10mph with 18" tires.

54 on diff
12 on jackshaft
20 inch tire

ooopps on the 2 to 1 as i was turning on the diff so it looked approx 2 to 1 when it would be almost 4.5 to 1

okay, an alsport ts 101? no rear shocks, fairly lightweight, you could run a 6.5 engine with success but you would need a new driver clutch and driven unit. that engine runs a 1 1/8 belt i believe. whats wrong with that engine? i run that engine on mine and is great.

If you run a clutch on one of these, I don't think you will be happy with the performance. To get power off the line your upper speed will suffer greatly and to get decent speed it wont want to take off. You'll need a converter. Your current setup looks just like my TS290. Some pics are in my photo album. As far as to the 40-140, where are you at, I'll take that engine. :)
@Randy - What gearing are you running? My 6.5 TS doesn't come anywhere near to pulling the front up. Stock was 10-54 I believe but some had a chain reduction between the converter and jackshaft. I don't have that.

Dead fast rule for me I never encourage anyone to build or rebuild a Trike with out the use of a working Torque Converter system. They will be very unhappy with the results and either give up or have to spend more money getting the right system.

I am not sure which gears are on it. It is now my buddies property... I believe it uses a Tav with a 10T running to a 40t sprocket, across a jackshaft to a 10t then to the 40t sprocket on the differential. I will try to get pics later. Randy

picked up a couple of sprockets just to get this thing mobile, I will do the Tav in the spring but for now I want to get it out of the shop and painted, I have the body at the painter for paint and it seems to be a plastic body with a glass on the underside..... layin a coat of paintable undercoat then lime green paint .

frame will get a high temp pressure wash and some paint, I would strip and powdercoat it but this is going to get driven alot and making it too nice only to have it scatched up by the nephiews is not going to happen again like my first mini restore.
