unknown wheel and strange differential thingy

Picked up a couple of carts and "stuff" this axle was thrown in.Anybody tell me what the wheel is?Also what the heck is the thing in the middle of the axle?
It has no linkage or a place to put one.Almost looks like something to absorb shock,hell idk.Never seen either.What do you guys think?


Well the wheel is to a margay cart.Found that out after some cleaning.
But still that diff thingybob

The wheel looks like one off a Margay go kart.

don't think it a diff.the axle looks like it goes straight through(keyways in the same place on both sides) does it have rubber on the inside?

Saw a drum brake set-up on a kart once that looked a lot like that.

yes it has rubber inside.I do not think its a brake,it does not have a place to hook up anything.In other words i dont see anything to hook up a linkage to make any drum expand.

since the sprocket looks like it bolts to it i'm thinkin it just absorbs some of the shock from the drivetrain :shrug:

looks like a Bendix Brake to me from the back side that is a Vari Hub that locks it to the axle.

looks like an axle clutch to me....and the wheel is a margay 24 series wheel.....Frank

Yoop,thats probably what it is.Your idea sounds better than a brake.And if the cart had that much power you would think disc brakes anyway.

maybe it allows just enough "give" to turn a wee bit better than locked? dunno, just thinking

axle clutch....several mfg made them....use instead of centrifugal clutch on engine, mostly on enduro karts.

dang! thats awesome, I like it waaaay better as an axle clutch instead of a rubber filled doo-hickey.

pretty awesome clutches....but dang, they ARE pricey when new!
