Valves hitting piston?

You would add the correct sized shim to the camshaft. Here are shims I got from mcmaster carr for crankshaft and camshaft shimming. Here is the problem there is no easy way to check that this is even your problem unless you take apart the engine, and with piston removed and sidecover reinstalled check the cam and see how much it moves back and forth. If you have a child it makes this easy as they can put their hand down the bore and move the cam back and forth. For me whose fat hands will not fit down the bore I made a tool out of 1" flat aluminum with a 90 bend on one end and cut so it just fits between the cam lobes and I can move cam back and forth.
